SmartAss version 0.5.1 was just released!!! It was a long road from the last version of SmartAss to the actual release. But I think it was worth it ... The new release brings two very cool features to you: SmartAss now runs on Honeycomb (Android 3) and will now scale on bigger screens. If you own a tablet you now see a lot more stuff that is displayed by the app. The second very cool feature is device synchronization. Device synchronization allows you to synchronize SmartAss on as many devices as you like and have the same shopping lists available on all of the synchronized devices. This allows you to compose your shopping list on your tablet at home. But you don't want to bring your tablet when you go shopping. The SmartAss app on your phone (and on the phones of your family members :-)) automatically synchronizes with your tablet and the other way round when device synchronization was enabled. |

Finally SmartAss 0.4.6 is there! This new release introduces list totals: If there are some items with prices in a list SmartAss now calculates the list's total and displays it. The new version also imports the activation state of lists. When importing lists are no longer activated by default. Instead the list activation state from the import file is used. Note that the version 0.4.6 of SmartAss will be the last release that explicitly supports Android 1.5. Upcoming versions will make use of new features of the Android framework and will probably not run on devices that use Android 1.5 or lower.

Last week or so Google released Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) which is the first Android version for tablets. Tablets usually have bigger screens than mobile phones so there is a lot more space on tablets to display apps on. SmartAss does not support tablet yet. SmartAss is thought of as being mobile and you don't carry your tablet on a shopping trip. But in the near future there will be synchronization of SmartAss instances on different devices, we call it "device synchronization". As soon as this works we will make effort to implement tablet support and big screen support using Honeycomb features. Until then SmartAss will run on tablets but does not look very fancy.

SmartAss versions higher or equal than 0.5.x will no longer support Android 1.5. There is a very low percentage (and still decreasing) of devices using Android 1.5. To take full advantage of features of new Android versions we decided that SmartAss 0.4.x will be the last version supporting Android 1.5. Nevertheless there will be a final update to version 0.4.6 of SmartAss coming soon.
